1st day of class!



today, i started officially, the 1st day of my chinese floral arrangement class w/my cousin, who is a master floralist. this is definitely something completely different than wht i've done b4 in painting, computer graphics, print or even my few pcs of sculptures and installations. i'm dealing w/ideas tht r about finding the natural beauty with meaning and style and combinations of both. it's got so much tradition, it's the origin of wht later became ikebana, traditional japanese flower arragement. i think for someone like me who isn't that interested in plants other than herb gardens or a few flowers, ths could b quite interesting. it'll also allow me to work in 3-d and give me diff perspective on things tht flow and about balance, the balance btwn stylized and free flow.

 Since the Covid Pandemic shut down of 3/2020, most of us have had a big shift in life. We’ve definitely have to adapt to living differently. SF became eerily quiet. The world came to a standstill. When shelter in place and work from home happened last year, we had just adopted an 8 week old puppy from Family Dog rescue. It was a lot to deal with because our cat took an immediate dislike. The 4 of us crammed into our tiny 1 bedroom condo was just too much stress, especially since we didn’t know the first things about raising such a young puppy. After a few weeks of me hiding in the closet to think while Kirk’s on constant zoom meetings, and out cat only comes out at night, which means no sleep for me, I’ve had it. Solution? hair line or cellulose line, artists tht inspires

it's been a while since i've posted any work here... well, i've not been doing too much new work. it's been very slow. maybe i've just been preoccupied, or just incubating? not sure which is which. maybe i feel as if the lines has to change for some reason? i kno it doesn't really. but what i'm seeing n experiencing, being in new town, with so many new things around me to observer, absorb, collect n regroup. it's starting to take some shape, i think. still don't kno wher ths is going just yet. i'm just glad it's moving. i was worried tht i've no longer got anything to create. tht my lines r old n farty now. maybe it is. i'm not sure, but so far, i'm liking it. ok, so now i wanna talk about 2 artists tht i'm fascinated by recently. one is Aubrey Bearsey from over 100 yrs ago. a very young artist who only made BW work n died at the young age o 25. he was illustrating literatures n myths. i've chanced by his poster in an exh...
